The Shaykh : The place remains: A man wanted to perform i'tikaf (spiritual retreat in the mosque) in the last ten days. He wanted to perform i'tikaf, so he said, "If I perform i'tikaf in the mosque, I will be tired of bringing the suhur (pre-dawn meal) and bringing the iftar (breaking the fast)." So he said, "I will perform i'tikaf in my house." He performed i'tikaf in his house and did not perform i'tikaf in the mosque. Who will answer this question? Yes, is it valid or is it not valid?
The student: It is not valid.

The Shaykh : It is not valid. I do not hear, is it not valid? Okay, why?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Ah.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Because he contradicted the Shari'ah in the place. Rest. Where is i'tikaf performed? In the mosque, by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
as long as you are staying for worship in the mosques وأنتم عاكفون في المساجد
[Al-Baqarah 2:187]
Control yourself, my brother, student of knowledge. Control these six things. It is not possible for worship to be in accordance with the Shari'ah unless it is in accordance with the Shari'ah in its number, is it not?
The student: ... .
The Shaykh, in its causes.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Is there something in it before?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : No, you do not forget. It is obligatory.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Okay, please, rest.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you. Good.
So we return to the surah
Except those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds إلا الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:227]
that is, they performed the righteous deeds.
So what are the righteous deeds? We say: They are those in which the deed is sincere for Allah, and second, in accordance with the Shari'ah of Allah.
Very well.
