The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: "He begets not, nor was He begotten."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We have reached in it the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
(3) He neither begets nor is born, (4) Nor is there to Him any equivalent." لم يلد ولم يولد ولم يكن له كفوا أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:3-4]
So who are those who said that Allah has a son? Those who said that Allah has a son are three categories of people: the Christians, the Jews, and the polytheists.
What did the Christians say about the son of Allah in their belief?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : 'Isa ibn Maryam, may Allah reward you. The Jews, by Allah?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Who is 'Azir? He said 'Azir, then he corrected himself and said Moses. Very well, please proceed?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : 'Azir, may Allah reward you. Where is the evidence that the Christians said that 'Isa ibn Maryam is the son of Allah? I think you have taken... please proceed.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : You have done well.
The Jews say, "Ezra is the son of Allah "; and the Christians say, "The Messiah is the son of Allah."
[At-Tawbah 9:30]
Very well, the polytheists also claimed that Allah has a son. Yes, is there any evidence in it?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, is there any evidence?
And they have made the angels, who are servants of the Most Merciful, females
[Az-Zukhruf 43:19]
There is no evidence.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : They said that the angels...

The questioner : The angels; they made the angels...

The Shaykh : the daughters of Allah. They said that the angels are the daughters of Allah. For this reason, they said:
And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment].
[As-Saffat 37:158]
May Allah reward you. Very well. And He said:
Has He chosen daughters over sons?
[As-Saffat 37:153]
So Allah the Exalted said:
He begets not لم يلد
And the reason He does not beget, Mighty and Majestic, is that He is the One, the Unique, to whom there is nothing comparable, the One who is self-sufficient regarding everyone. A child must necessarily resemble his father. A child is also needed for the continuation of the lineage. A child is also needed by his father for his assistance in his sustenance. And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is self-sufficient regarding all of this. So there is nothing like Him, and He does not need anyone. Rather, He is al-Samad (the One upon whom all depend).
nor was He begotten ولم يولد
Has anyone among people said that Allah was begotten? We do not know of anyone who said that. However, He said, Mighty and Majestic, in the context of the negation of both sides of begetting, from both sides: He is not a begetter and He is not begotten. And that is for the perfection of the negation of begetting from both its sides, whether being a begetter or being begotten.
