The ruling on placing a green palm frond on the grave of a deceased person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling on placing a green palm frond on the grave of a deceased person?

A: It is not prescribed to do so; rather, it is a religious innovation (bid'ah). This is because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) only placed a palm frond on two graves, regarding which Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) informed him of the punishment of their occupants, and he did not place it on the other graves. Thus, it is known that it is not permissible to place it on graves, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملًا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
It was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih.
And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a
It is agreed upon that it is authentic. Likewise, it is not permissible to write on graves or to place flowers on them, based on the two hadiths mentioned; and because he (peace and blessings be upon him):
He prohibited plastering graves, building on them, sitting on them, and writing on themنهى عن تجصيص القبور والبناء عليها والقعود عليها والكتابة عليها
