The Meaning of His Saying: "And He appointed for it stations so that you may know the number of years and the reckoning."

The Shaykh : That is, He appointed the moon stations that it descends into, one station after another. This is why you see it tonight in a station different from the previous one. And so it descends from station to station by the decree of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as He the Exalted said: meaning it returned like the old date stalk. The date stalk is the bunch of dates; when its time has passed, it withers and curls up like this. This is how the moon becomes until it returns like the old date stalk. Here He the Exalted says: Why? Brother. Stand up. Why? Yes, yes. Why? Yes, no one is speaking, everyone.

The Shaykh : So, you have no knowledge then. May Allah reward you with good. Whoever says "I do not know" regarding what he does not know has indeed known. Yes. Please proceed.

The Shaykh : That is enough, rest. He said: This is the wisdom behind appointing the moon stations. So, the reference for timing and determining terms and the like is the moon; this is the reference. As He the Exalted said: . Times for whom? For people. Which people? All people, all people: the disbeliever and the believer, the Arab and the non-Arab. These new moons, Allah the Exalted made them times for people.
