Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Indeed, Allah has heard the statement of the woman who argues with you regarding her husband and complains to Allah, and Allah hears your conversation. Indeed, Allah is Hearing, Seeing.”

The Shaykh : Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
Certainly has Allah heard the speech of the one who argues with you, [O Muhammad], concerning her husband and directs her complaint to Allah
[Al-Mujadila 58:1]
Certainly has Allah heard the speech of the one who argues with you, [O Muhammad], concerning her husband and directs her complaint to Allah
[Al-Mujadila 58:1]
. And at that point, we ask: Where is Allah? Where is Allah? In the sky, above the seven heavens, at a great distance, upon His Throne, the Mighty and Majestic. The woman arguing is on earth. On earth, she addresses the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), saying: The mother of the believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said:
Praise be to Allah, Who has encompassed all voices with His hearing. I was at the lower part of the room — or she said, at the edge of the room — and some of her conversation was hidden from me.
. And the mother of the believers, Aisha, had perfect hearing and could hear. And yet, she was at the edge of the room, and the woman was arguing with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and some of her conversation was hidden from the mother of the believers. And the Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, is above the seven heavens, upon His Throne, hearing. He heard and He hears; He heard to establish the reality, and He hears for the continuation of the reality, because “He heard” is a past tense verb and “He hears” is a present tense verb. Now,
Certainly has Allah heard the speech of the one who argues with you, [O Muhammad], concerning her husband and directs her complaint to Allah
[Al-Mujadila 58:1]
. This woman was the mother of children. So her husband pronounced zihar from her one day. He said to her, “You are to me like the back of my mother,” intending thereby to make her forbidden to him, just as the back of his mother is forbidden to him. And it is known that the back of a mother is forbidden to her son, what? It is forbidden, one of the most severe prohibitions. So much so that whoever commits unlawful sexual intercourse with one of his mahrams, whether his mother, daughter, sister, maternal aunt, paternal aunt, sister’s daughter, or brother’s daughter, must be killed in any case, even if he is not a married man, as indicated by the purified Sunnah, because unlawful sexual intercourse with mahrams is not like unlawful sexual intercourse with non-mahrams. It is more heinous, may Allah protect us. Now, this man said to his wife, “You are to me like the back of my mother.” And zihar in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance was a final divorce by which the woman never becomes lawful again. That is, in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, if a man said to his wife, “You are to me like the back of my mother,” she became forbidden to him forever. She does not become lawful to him, neither after another husband nor before another husband. — Pay attention, O man —. What is zihar in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance? What is its ruling? Yes? What is the ruling of zihar among the people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance? His wife never becomes lawful to him. Is that so? Now, rest. So she came complaining to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), an older woman, the mother of children, whose children would be lost and she would be lost as well. Based on what? Based on what, O brother? — The one who turned his shirt — Based on what? I do not hear. Did you not know that you are not with us? Rest. Based on the fact that zihar is what? It is not a divorce. It is a major final divorce by which she never becomes lawful. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was arguing with her and had not given her a definitive ruling. Allah revealed this verse:
Certainly has Allah heard the speech of the one who argues with you, [O Muhammad], concerning her husband and directs her complaint to Allah. And Allah hears your dialogue
[Al-Mujadila 58:1]
, meaning the exchange of words between her and the Messenger, and what comes after that?
And Allah hears your dialogue; indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing.
[Al-Mujadila 58:1]
.
