Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: "And what they took exception to in them was nothing but that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Praiseworthy," to His saying: "Indeed, those who afflicted the believing men and believing women and then did not repent..."

The Shaykh :
And they resented them
[Al-Buruj 85:8]
Recite the verse. Yes, you did well. Rest.
And they resented them
[Al-Buruj 85:8]
That is, they did not deny anything of them except this.
because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,
[Al-Buruj 85:8]
Is this something to be denied, or is it something to be praised and its doer commended? The first or the second? The second. But the disbeliever does not want this; he wants disbelief.
And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,
[Al-Buruj 85:8]
Al-Aziz: The Prevailing; Al-Hamid: The Praiseworthy, because of His perfection in attributes and perfection in blessings and honor (Exalted and Majestic is He).
to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth
[Al-A'raf 7:158]
So whatever punishment befalls the believers, it is within His dominion, and He is the One who decreed it. But it is for a great wisdom and a noble purpose.
And Allah is a Witness over all things.
That is, He (Mighty and Majestic) is a Witness over everything in the heaven or the earth, near or far.
Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.
[Al-Buruj 85:10]
"They tried the believers": it was said that its meaning is they burned them. And it was said that its meaning is they turned them away from the religion. And this is closer, as He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
Fight them until there is no [more] fitnah and [until] worship is [acknowledged to be] for Allah
[Al-Baqarah 2:193]
Listen:
Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.
[Al-Buruj 85:10]
So look at this generosity from the Lord, (Mighty and Majestic is He): they burn His awliya (close friends of Allah) with fire, then He offers them repentance and says:
Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell
[Al-Buruj 85:10]
Meaning, "And if they repent?" They are answered. And if they repent, Allah accepts their repentance.
This, and Allah is the ultimate generosity, that they punish His close friends with this ugly, abhorrent punishment, and then He offers them repentance, but Allah is the Owner of immense favor.
