The Shaykh : When Allah the Exalted says:
O you who have believed يا أيها الذين آمنوا
[Al-Baqarah 2:104]
, it is an address from Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, to His believing servants, describing them as believers
O you who have believed يا أيها الذين آمنوا
[Al-Baqarah 2:104]
. In reality, it is a high rank for Allah to direct His address to you with this great description
O you who have believed يا أيها الذين آمنوا
[Al-Baqarah 2:104]
. Know that the general rule in the Medinan surahs is that the address is made with the description of faith
O you who have believed يا أيها الذين آمنوا
[Al-Baqarah 2:104]
. In the Meccan surahs, it is with the phrase
O people يا أيها الناس
. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: إذا سمعت الله يقول : يا أيها الذين آمنوا فأرعها سمعك When you hear Allah say: O you who believe, then give it your hearing. meaning, pay attention to it and listen to it
Either good which you are commanded to do, or evil which you are forbidden from doing. فإما خير تأمر به وإما شر تنهى عنه
