Mentioning the aspects of intoxicants in the Noble Qur'an, and clarifying the ruling on their drinker.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, mentioned intoxicants in four aspects: The first aspect: mentioning them in the way of permissibility. The second: mentioning them in the way of indirect prohibition. The third: mentioning them in the way of prohibition near the time of prayer. The fourth: mentioning them in the way of absolute prohibition at all times.
As for the first: it is in His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He:[An-Nahl 16:67] complete [An-Nahl 16:67] This means permissibility. And that it is from the grace of Allah upon the servants.
And as for the indirect prohibition, it is in His saying, the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:219]. And there is no doubt that a person of intellect, if he knows that the sin of them is greater than their benefit, he will avoid them.
And as for the third: it is in this verse:[An-Nisa 4:43] This means that it is permissible to drink intoxicants before the approach of the time of prayer, and it is prohibited, what? At the approach of the time of prayer. The fourth: the saying of Allah, the Exalted: [Al-Ma'idah 5:90-91]. The interrogation here means command, i.e., so stop. So the Companions said: . And the Muslims agreed on the prohibition of intoxicants of any type, whether from grapes or from fruit or from barley or from wheat or from any substance it may be, for it is forbidden by the consensus of the Muslims. And they also said: "Whoever denies the prohibition of intoxicants while living among the Muslims is a disbeliever and an apostate" because he denied something whose existence is known necessarily from the religion. And as for the one who drinks it while believing in its prohibition, he does not become a disbeliever, but he is among the sinners and is punished with flogging. If he returns a second time, he is punished with flogging. If he returns a third time, he is punished with flogging. If he returns a fourth time, he must be killed. As indicated by the authentic Sunnah. And that is because if he is punished for drinking three times and does not stop, he becomes a corrupt member in the society. He cannot remain in it without corrupting it. And our killing him is in the interest of the society and in his interest as well, because if he remained addicted to intoxicants, he would thereby -complete- he would thereby increase in sin. So if he is killed, he stops this sin and his affair is left to Allah, Mighty and Majestic. So the drinker of intoxicants, if he becomes addicted to it while being punished for it, he is killed on the fourth time because this does not end without killing.
As for the first: it is in His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He:
And from the fruits of the palm trees and grapevines you take
وَمِنْ ثَمَرَاتِ النَّخِيلِ وَالْأَعْنَابِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِنْهُintoxicant and good provision
سَكَرًا وَرِزْقًا حَسَنًاAnd as for the indirect prohibition, it is in His saying, the Exalted:
They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, "In them is great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit."
And as for the third: it is in this verse:
