Question:
The first message in this episode is from one of our brother listeners. He says: I am your friend Ahmad Ja'far Muhammad Ali. He says: I read in a book: "If a Muslim sits with a drinker of intoxicants, his deeds will be nullified for forty days." I ask you to clarify this issue? And is what was said correct? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
We do not know any basis for this hadith, and it is not known from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, it appears to be a fabricated lie. However, sitting with a drinker of intoxicants is not permissible, and it is obligatory to disapprove of him, guide him to good, advise him, and counsel him. It is not permissible to take the companions of intoxicants as close associates.
Rather, it is obligatory to disapprove of them, advise them, and make clear the great danger in what they are doing; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed intoxicants, and cursed its drinker, its brewer, its presser, its carrier, the one to whom it is carried, its seller, its buyer, and the one who eats its price. It is the mother of all evils, and drinking intoxicants is among the ugliest of major sins; because of the removal of reason it contains; and because it is a means to great evil.
So it is obligatory for every Muslim to warn against it, and to warn against sitting with its people. But he should strive to advise them and guide them to good. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
