The ruling on a drinker of intoxicants who prays and gives charity

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner, who used the initials (Ahmad . S. M), says in this question—he wrote this message in his own style—he says: I have a friend—and praise be to Allah—he prays, does not leave any obligatory prayer, does good, gives a lot of charity, loves people, serves people, and has gone on Hajj more than once. But, unfortunately, and what I have noticed about him is that after the 'Isha' prayer he consumes intoxicants, and no one knows about it. When I advised him about it, he said: I drink after the 'Isha' prayer and sleep until the Fajr prayer, so the smell has gone out of the mouth, and I return to my normal state. This is what I use in this time, and I do not tell anyone about it. What is the ruling on this man? May you be rewarded.

Answer:
His ruling is that he is a sinner and in great danger; because intoxicants are among the major sins. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)
Cursed are intoxicants, the one who drinks them, the one who serves them, the one who carries them, the one to whom they are carried, the one who sells them, the one who buys them, and the one who eats their price.لعن الخمر، وشاربها، وساقيها، وحاملها، والمحمولة إليه، وبائعها، ومشتريها، وآكل ثمنها
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 32:31
its evil is great... the mother of all evils, and Allah says regarding it:
(90) O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful. (91) Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?
[Al-Ma'idah: 90-91].
So this person is in great danger. He may sleep through the prayer, and it may lead him to do reprehensible deeds. It is obligatory for the Muslim to be cautious of intoxicants absolutely, even in secret. He must be cautious of them, for Allah knows the secret and what is more hidden, and nothing is hidden from Him. How can one confront Allah with disobedience, hiding from the created beings, while confronting Allah with disobedience? The obligation is to be cautious and to repent to Allah from that. He is in great danger that this persistence will lead him to great evil.
So it is obligatory for him to repent to Allah, to abandon it, and to be cautious of it. And you must advise him often and warn him of the consequences of this sin. He is in danger—may Allah grant us safety and well-being. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
