The questioner : This questioner also says in his second and final question: I have a group of friends who are lax in performing the prayer, and they also speak about what is forbidden in speech. Is it permissible for me to cut them off, knowing that when I meet them, I remind them of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and strive to advise them? What do you advise me, O honorable Shaykh, may you be rewarded?

The Shaykh : We advise you that if your remaining in their company is beneficial, and you find from them a receptiveness to advice and compliance with what you direct them to, then there is no blame on you in staying with them, for in that there is benefit for you and for them.
As for them, it is apparent. And as for you, it is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to 'Ali ibn Abi Talib
If a single person embraces Islam at your hands (i.e. through you), that will be better for you than the red camels. لأن يهدي الله بك رجل واحد خير لك من حمر النعم
Sahih al-Bukhari 2942
.
And as for if you do not find in them any receptiveness or acceptance of advice, then beware of them and of yourself, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against the bad companion and informed that he is like the bellower of the bellows: either he will burn your clothes, or you will find from him a foul or bad smell. Then it is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said
A man is upon the religion of his close friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends. المرء على دين خليله فلينظر أحدكم من يُخالل
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 33:79
. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
