Speaking about the bad ending and the good ending.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The most severe thing for a person is when he parts with this world at the time of death. Satan exposes him to trials and comes to him. He comes to some of the deceased—not all of them—in the form of his father or his mother and says, "O my son, stick to Judaism. Be a Jew. Do not die except upon Judaism, upon the religion of the Jews." And he is in a critical state, so he may be affected. Thus, religions are presented to the dying. The Shaykh al-Islam said it is established, but not for every deceased person. "When the time of death approached Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him), the Imam of the people of the Sunnah, who is well known and famous, when his death approached, they heard him saying: 'Later, later, later, later. What is later, later?' He said, 'O Abdullah, what is the meaning of your saying "later, later"?' He said: 'I saw Satan biting his fingers in regret and remorse, saying: "Triumph over me, O Ahmad. Triumph over me, O Ahmad."' Meaning he was unable to mislead him. "So I say: 'Later, later.' What is the meaning of "later, later"? It means that as long as the soul is in the body, everything is possible. A person may deviate at the last moment. May our Lord not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us. O Allah, keep us firm upon the truth until death, O Lord of the worlds. A person may deviate at the last moment, just as he may be guided at the last moment. He may be guided at the last moment. I will tell you a story, and what is the matter?

The Shaykh : Yes, it is known.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Hmm, okay. This is a man from Banu 'Abd al-Ashhal from the Ansar. In the Battle of Uhud, he was a disbeliever, openly declaring his disbelief. He hated Islam and the people of Islam. He was a disbeliever. When he heard the commotion, meaning the shouting of the people and their going out to Uhud, Allah placed faith in his heart, so he believed and went out to fight in the cause of Allah. Subhan Allah, he was defending Islam, whereas at first he was at war with Islam. He went out to fight. And you know that in Uhud, how many of the Companions were martyred? Seventy men, among them this man.
When the fighting was over, the people went around the dead
so that they might identify their dead.
They found this man, al-Asir, al-Asir. They said, "What brought you, when you mean to hate Islam and fight Islam?"
What brought you?
Did you come out of loyalty to your people or out of desire for Islam? He said: "I came out of desire for Islam. And convey my greetings to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and inform him." So they did.
This man became a Muslim at the last moment. And Allah the Exalted is the Turner of hearts. O our brothers, the truthful and veracious one (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that the hearts are between two fingers of the fingers of the Most Merciful, and He turns them as He wills. Look, O man, your heart is between two fingers of the fingers of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and He turns it as He wills. If He wills, He will make it deviate, and if He wills, He will make it firm. O Allah, keep our hearts firm. So when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this story, he said:
O Allah, Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion. O Allah, Turner of hearts, turn our hearts toward Your obedience.
Do not be proud of your faith. We seek refuge in Allah from pride. Do not be secure. Ask Allah for firmness always. Ask Allah for firmness always. But be glad, O Muslims. Be glad, O Muslims, that Allah does not make the heart of anyone deviate unless his heart had already deviated before. The evidence is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And when they deviated, Allah caused their hearts to deviate.
[As-Saf 61:5]
And as for he who turns to Allah with sincerity, and I ask Allah to make me and you among them. He who turns to Allah with sincerity, and Allah will not turn him back; He will accept him. And whoever draws near to Allah by a handspan, He draws near to him by an arm's length. And whoever draws near to Him by an arm's length, He draws near to him by a cubit. And whoever comes to Him walking, He comes to him running. For Allah is more generous, more generous. And Allah is more generous than our deeds. His forgiveness is wider. But there may be a thorn in the heart, meaning a hair or a speck of hypocrisy that destroys him, and may Allah protect us from that. We ask Allah for safety. The important thing, O our brothers, is that we return to the intended point, which is what? Seeking nearness to Allah through righteous deeds, and that is what? The seventh section.

The Shaykh : What contradicts it, okay.
