The questioner : Is praying for a man to have a bad ending disbelief?

The Shaykh : I mean, if I pray for a person to have a bad ending, does the one who prays become a disbeliever?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : No, this is not considered disbelief, but it is not permissible for a person to pray for his Muslim brother with this terrible prayer for a bad ending, because a bad ending, may Allah protect us from it, means: that he dies upon other than Islam. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Similarly, a person may do deeds characteristic of the people of Paradise, so much so that there is only the distance of a cubit between him and it أن الرجل يعمل بعمل أهل الجنة حتى ما يكون بينه وبينها إلا ذراع
Sahih al-Bukhari 3332
-meaning: until his time approaches
he does the deeds of the people of the Fire and enters it فيعمل بعمل أهل النار فيدخلها
Sahih al-Bukhari 6594
