What is the ruling on men wearing a ring?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O esteemed Shaykh, what is the ruling on men wearing a ring?

The Shaykh : For men, wearing a ring—if it is made of gold—is forbidden, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding gold and silk:
It is made lawful for the women of my Ummah and forbidden for the men. حل لإناث أمتي حرام على ذكورها
. He saw a man wearing a gold ring and said:
Will one of you take a piece of burning coal and put it in his hand? أيعمد أحدكم إلى جمرة من نار يضعها في يده
. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) removed the ring with his own hand and threw it away. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had left, it was said to the man:
Take your ring. He said: I will not take a ring that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw away. خذ خاتمك قال: لا آخذ خاتما رمى بها النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم
.
However, if it is made of something other than gold, such as silver, and it is for a need, it is a recommended practice (sunnah), such as for a judge, a ruler, a minister, or anyone whose transactions require authentication by their seal. This is a recommended practice (sunnah), because when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was corresponding with kings, it was said to him:
They do not accept a letter unless it is sealed. He took a ring. إنهم لا يقبلون إلا كتاباً مختوماً اتخذ الخاتم
. But if it is merely for adornment, it is not recommended for him.
