Explanation of the issue: if a person does something forbidden by mistake or forgetfulness, he owes nothing, with examples and the completion of the interpretation of the verse.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Here there are three issues:
The first issue: if a person does something forbidden by mistake, not knowing that it is forbidden, then he owes nothing, no matter what the sin is and no matter how great it is. But if he knows the prohibition, it is obligatory for him to refrain. Likewise, if a person does something forbidden by Allah out of forgetfulness, there is no blame on him, no sin on him, and no expiation on him, because Allah has forgiven that. Likewise, if a person forgets and does something forbidden, he owes nothing, no expiation, and no sin, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
Let us give examples of this.
A man spoke while he was praying, ignorant, thinking that speaking in prayer is lawful. Then he came to seek a ruling. What do we say to him? The answer: We say, you owe nothing, your prayer is valid, and you do not have to repeat it. Your prayer is valid, and this is indicated by
That a man spoke in prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so when he finished the prayer, he asked who spoke, so the man said, "I, O Messenger of Allah."
He accepted and admitted it, but he did not know, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not order him to repeat the prayer.
Rather, he said to him something that we may mention at the end, if Allah wills.
The second issue: A man urinated in the mosque without knowing that it is forbidden. It is known that this is forbidden
So the people stood up to rebuke him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave him, do not rebuke him."
meaning do not stop him from urinating, meaning do not stop him from urinating
So they left him to urinate until he finished his urine. When he finished the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called the man and said to him: "These mosques are not suitable for any impurity; they are only for the glorification of Allah, praise, and recitation of the Qur'an."
or as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said. And he did not order him to repeat the prayer. Why? Because he was ignorant and did not know.
A third example: A man was praying, and another person greeted him, so the praying man said, "Peace be upon you." But he was ignorant and did not know that this is forbidden. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not order him to repeat the prayer because he was ignorant, and Allah has forgiven ignorance for this nation, praise be to Allah.
Another example: A man was fasting, and when he woke up from the night, he began to eat and drink based on the assumption that the night was still continuing. Then it became clear to him afterwards that the night had ended and the sun had risen, so he stopped. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not order him to repeat the fast because he ate while ignorant, thinking that the night was still continuing.
And from that: if a man was traveling with his family and he had intercourse with his wife in Ramadan, then his fasting is valid because fasting is not obligatory for this man. But he has to make up another day in place of the day he fasted and invalidated by breaking the fast.
And from that: if a man was in the state of ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah, then he applied perfume while forgetting, his Hajj is valid, but he has to wash off the trace of the perfume because he is still in ihram.
And if a man said to his wife, "If I speak to so-and-so, you are divorced," then he spoke to so-and-so without knowing that it was him, then she is not divorced, and he has not broken his oath, because he swore in this divorce while ignorant, and the one who swears while ignorant owes nothing.
And from that also: if a man in the state of ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah stopped at a perfumer and took the tip of his finger to smell this perfume, and he did not know before that it was perfume, then he owes nothing, but he has to wash off the trace of the perfume.
Likewise, another example: if a man forced a person to commit disbelief, may Allah protect us from that, and said to him, "Either you commit disbelief or I will kill you." This man hesitated and was confused, but he went ahead and answered the one who forced him. He answered his coercion, so he owes nothing.
And if a man was in the state of ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah, then he shot at game while in ihram, but he did not think that it was forbidden game, then he owes nothing, no sin and no expiation.
And this rule is not written from the hand of a scholar or the saying of a scholar. This is a rule from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and it is not permissible for anyone to compel a person to perform a forbidden act while ignorant of any of the expiations or make-ups except with evidence. For this reason, we say "What is established by evidence is not annulled except by evidence"
We see some scholars being strict in this and making the expiation obligatory on the one who was forgetful, ignorant, or coerced. This opinion is weak, and I do not know where the argument of this mufti will be with Allah, Mighty and Majestic. If Allah has been lenient with His servants, where does the dispensation come from? So leave the matter, leave the matter as it is and with its dispensation, and Allah, Mighty and Majestic, knows His servants best and knows their interests best.
And His saying, the Exalted:
And they say, "We hear and we obey. قالوا سمعنا وأطعنا
[Al-Baqarah 2:285]
We heard with our ears and we obeyed with our hearts, which is what is included in His saying:
And we obeyed.
. When the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted to this ruling, they were pleased and accepted it, and Allah made things easy for them.
And His saying, Mighty and Majestic:
Forgiveness is Yours
meaning we ask You for Your forgiveness, and forgiveness is that Allah covers the sin of the servant and drops its punishment.
And His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He:
our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination." ربنا وإليك المصير
[Al-Baqarah 2:285]
meaning that the destination of creation is to Allah, as Allah, the Exalted, said:
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.
[Al-Inshiqaq 84:6]
So let a person remember this meeting and how he will meet Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, with it. And Allah, the Exalted, said:
And fear Allah and know that you will meet Him. And give good tidings to the believers.
[Al-Baqarah 2:223]

And His saying:
We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness
[Al-Baqarah 2:285]
The reader should pause at His saying:
We have heard and obeyed
and make His saying:
Forgiveness is Yours
a new sentence, so that it does not confuse the listener that the meaning of the verse is
We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness
[Al-Baqarah 2:285]
. The correct meaning is that we heard and obeyed Your saying, our Lord, but we ask You for Your forgiveness and forgiveness of sins from the utmost, or it is the utmost of what the seekers ask for, because if a person is forgiven, he obtains ... from the sins and release from faults and safety from many things.
And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination."
[Al-Baqarah 2:285]
.
The discussion on the rest of the verse will come, if Allah wills. Yes.
