Explaining the Ruling on Cursing a Believer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And here we ask: What is the ruling on cursing a believer?
Answer: Cursing a believer is one of the major sins. For this reason, it came in the hadith that if a curse is directed at a person, if he is deserving of it, then he is deserving of it; and if he is not deserving of it, it returns to the one who said it. It returns to the one who said it. So beware of cursing a person who is not deserving of being cursed.
Cursing a specific person is forbidden, even if he is a disbeliever. It is not permissible for you to curse him, because Allah the Exalted may have mercy on him and guide him to Islam. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed Abu Jahl and others of the leaders of disbelief, Allah the Exalted said to him:[Ali 'Imran 3:128].
As for if the specific person has died upon disbelief, there is nothing wrong with cursing him. For example, if you know that a person among the people has died upon disbelief, then cursing him is permissible. However, even so, it is not among the best to curse him, because the believer is not one who curses or one who insults. And Allah Mighty and Majestic has sufficed you, for the disbeliever, if he dies upon his disbelief, is already cursed, as the Exalted said in these verses:[Al-Ahzab 33:64-65].
