The questioner : May Allah reward you well, O Shaykh: My father, may Allah have mercy on him and grant him Paradise, was bedridden for four years, afflicted with paralysis. One night, while we were in Ramadan, he said, "O my son, take me out to the open air." So I took him out to the open air, then I brought him back to his bed.

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : I brought him back to his bed, but before he reached his bed, he said, "O my son, I am hungry for lunch." I said, "O my father, are you fasting or have you broken your fast?"

The Shaykh : This was during the day.

The questioner : During the day. He said, "No, I am fasting." I said, "If you are hungry, let my family prepare lunch for you." He said, "No, my son, I can endure it." I said, "There is only one hour left, no more, until Maghrib. Can you endure it? I do not want to break your fast, nor do I want to deprive you of food." He said, "I cannot, if..." So I brought him back to his bed, and after I had laid him down, I went to get water.

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : I went to get water, and the Maghrib adhan was called. We sat down to break our fast, and one of my brothers came to me and said, "The old man has passed away."

The Shaykh : What is in it?

The questioner : The old man has passed away.

The Shaykh : What do you mean by "passed away"?

The questioner : I mean he is dying, on the verge of...

The Shaykh : Ah.

The questioner : So I left the meal and went back to him. I found him in a state where he did not know who was coming and who was going. He remained in that condition until the night of the festival, and on the night of the festival, he passed away.

The Shaykh : From when? From the beginning of the month?

The questioner : He fasted the entire month of Ramadan until the eighteenth day, and he was fasting, but the illness overtook him after the eighteenth.

The Shaykh : Very well.

The questioner : So he died on the night of the festival. Is there anything required of me when he asked for lunch?

The Shaykh : No, there is nothing required of you. And you must feed a poor person for each day. Feed a poor person for each day.

The questioner : Only?

The Shaykh : Fourteen days remaining.

The questioner : Twelve.

The Shaykh : Yes, twelve days.

The questioner : May Allah reward you well.
The student: Is this if it was a full month, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : The entire month, yes, on the right.
