What is the stronger position regarding the hearing of the dead?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the stronger position regarding the hearing of the dead?

The Shaykh : The hearing of the dead.

The questioner : That they hear speech; what is the stronger position?

The Shaykh : The stronger position is that what the Sunnah has brought is established and there is no doubt in it, as in the hadith:
When a person’s companions leave him after his burial, he hears the striking of their sandals.
And as it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family)
That he stood over the slain in the well of Badr, rebuking them and admonishing them. When they said: “O Messenger of Allah! How can you speak to these?” He said: “You are not better able to hear what I say than they are.”
And as also came in the hadith:
No Muslim greets a grave he knew in this world except that Allah returns his soul to him, and he returns the greeting.
Otherwise, the original state is that they do not hear because their souls have departed from their bodies, but what the Sunnah has brought, one must believe in it. Yes.
