The Deceased Hearing the Speech of People

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 9216 )
Q3: I read in the book al-Hawi li al-Fatawa by Imam al-Suyuti that the deceased hears the speech of people, their praise of him, and what they say about him,
and that he also knows which of the living are visiting him, and that the dead visit one another. Is this good? He relied on some hadiths and some athar, and this is in vol. 2, pp. 169, 170, 171.

A3: The principle is that the dead do not hear the speech of the living, except for what is explicitly stated in the texts; due to the saying of Allah, the Exalted, addressing His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
So indeed, you will not make the dead hearفَإِنَّكَ لاَ تُسْمِعُ الْمَوْتَى
[Ar-Rum 30:52]
the verse, and His saying, the Exalted:
but you cannot make hear those in the graves.وَمَا أَنْتَ بِمُسْمِعٍ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ
[Fatir 35:22]
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
