His saying (peace and blessings be upon him): “O Allah, help me to remember You, to give You thanks, and to worship You in the best manner.” When is this said?

The questioner : O Shaykh, is it better for the supplication:
O Allah, help me to give You thanks, to remember You, and to worship You in the best manner اللهم أعني على شكرك وذكرك وحسن عبادتك
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 22:275
to be before the taslim, or after the taslim, or is it better to do it in both places?

The Shaykh : It is better to do it before the taslim, because this is how it was reported in some narrations, and because supplication is done before the taslim, as in the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud. When he mentioned the tashahhud, he said:
Then let him choose whatever he wishes from supplication. ثم ليتخير من الدعاء ما شاء
Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:238
And on this basis, he says:
O Allah, help me in remembering You, in giving You thanks, and worshipping You well. اللهم أعني على ذكرك وشكرك وحسن عبادتك
Sunan Abi Dawud 1522Sahih (Al-Albani)
before he says the taslim. And after the taslim, what did Allah say?
Then when you have completed the prayer, remember Allah فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُمُ الصَّلاةَ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ
He did not say: “So call upon Him.” As for the prayer of the one who is praying when he says the taslim: “I seek forgiveness from Allah” three times, the purpose of this seeking forgiveness is to make up for any deficiency that occurred in the prayer, so it is fitting that it be done immediately after the taslim. Yes.
