The benefits of the verse: “Lightning almost snatches away their sight. Whenever it illuminates for them, they walk in it, and when darkness falls upon them, they stand still. And if Allah had willed, He would have taken away their hearing and their sight. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.”

And among the benefits of this noble verse, which comes after whom?
The lightning almost snatches away their sight
[Al-Baqarah 2:20]
Among its benefits: that intense lightning snatches away the sight. For this reason, a person is prohibited from looking at lightning while the sky is flashing, lest his sight be snatched away. And among the benefits of this noble verse: seizing opportunities
Every time it lights [the way] for them, they walk therein
[Al-Baqarah 2:20]
, and seizing opportunities is among the actions of the wise.
And among the benefits of the noble verse: avoiding perils
but when darkness comes over them, they stand [still]وإذا أظلم عليهم قاموا
[Al-Baqarah 2:20]
. And among the benefits of the noble verse: affirming the will of Allah, as Allah the Exalted said:
And if Allah had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight
[Al-Baqarah 2:20]
. And among its benefits: that it is incumbent upon a person to turn to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to grant him the blessing of his hearing and his sight. In the transmitted supplication:
Grant us the blessing of our hearing and our sight as long as You keep us alive
, based on His saying:
And if Allah had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight
[Al-Baqarah 2:20]
. And among its benefits: affirming this name for Allah, which is al-Qadir (the All-Competent). And among its benefits: the comprehensiveness of Allah’s power over everything; He (Exalted and Majestic is He) is competent over everything, capable of bringing into existence what does not exist, of annihilating what exists, of changing the good into the corrupt and the corrupt into the good, and so on.
