We return to the benefits of this noble verse. In this verse is evidence of the eloquence of the Qur'an, where it strikes parables for abstract concepts. What are they? Sensible things, because a sensible thing is closer to the intellect than an abstract concept. But among the eloquence of the Qur'an is that Allah the Exalted strikes sensible parables for abstract meanings so that a person may understand them well.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of analogical reasoning (qiyas), meaning that it is evidence to be acted upon. What is the aspect of the argument, Khalid? No, this verse is the evidence, but we need the aspect of the argument? The letter "kaf" is also for comparison. The student: He wanted us to compare their state to the state of the one who... reached this point. The Shaykh : He wanted us to compare their state to the state of the one who kindled a fire, and every parable in the Qur'an is evidence for the affirmation and establishment of analogical reasoning. Any parable in the Qur'an is evidence, and thus it is a refutation of those who deny analogical reasoning. That is, after we establish it, we say: it is a refutation of you. You read the Qur'an every day and night and you find in it parables, which are undoubtedly clear and evident analogical reasoning. And among the benefits of this noble verse is that these hypocrites have no light in their hearts, as He said:[Al-Baqarah 2:17] meaning they sought to kindle it from others, and that is the case. These hypocrites seek guidance, knowledge, and light, but when it reaches their hearts, as soon as it reaches them, it diminishes and disappears. This is because these hypocrites are brothers to the believers in terms of lineage, uncles, maternal uncles, and relatives. So perhaps one sits with a true believer and speaks to him with true faith and invites him, and this faith sparks in his heart, but it quickly disappears—may Allah grant us and you steadfastness.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that faith must have its effect, even in the heart of a hypocrite, as He said:[Al-Baqarah 2:17] Faith illuminated something in their hearts, but because it was not on a foundation, it did not settle. For this reason, Allah said in the Surah of the Hypocrites, which is the most extensive in which Allah spoke and discussed the hypocrites: He said: [Al-Munafiqun 63:3] This faith that sparks in their hearts eventually disappeared.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that the light of faith in the hearts of the hypocrites does not extend beyond their chests, as He said:[Al-Baqarah 2:17], and it did not advance forward. They did not believe in the Hereafter or in the previous messengers, but this small amount of faith occurred and illuminated what was around it, then it went away.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that after this light went away, severe darkness, indeed darknesses, took its place.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that Allah the Exalted rewarded them according to what was in their hearts:[Al-Baqarah 2:17] as if He took it by force.
If someone were to say: Is there not in this evidence for the doctrine of the Jabriyyah? The answer is: No, because what happened from the Lord of creation, Mighty and Majestic, was due to them. And always remember the saying of Allah the Exalted:[As-Saf 61:5] until it becomes clear to you that everyone whom Allah described as having gone astray is the cause; he is the cause of himself, meaning the cause of his misguidance.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is Allah's abandonment of them, as He said: Allah abandoned them.
And branching from that is that whoever Allah abandons is perishing; he has no light, no guidance, and no rectitude:[Al-Baqarah 2:17] meaning it is not possible for them to have.
