The benefits of the verse: “We said, ‘Descend from it, all of you. And whoever follows My guidance, there will be no fear upon them, nor will they grieve,’” and the mention of a question

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
In this verse, there are benefits. Among them is that Adam was elevated in the beginning, as He said:
Descendاهبطوا
And descent does not occur except from above? From where?
The student: From the sky?

The Shaykh : No, descent does not occur except from above. Good. And is the Paradise in which Adam resided the Paradise of Eternity? Or is it a vast garden with many trees, much vegetation, and many rivers? There are two opinions among the scholars, and the correct one—if we do not say it is certain—is that it is the abiding Paradise in which Adam was placed. It is not said, “How do you say this is the correct view when no one who enters the Paradise comes out of it?” We say, yes, no one who enters it comes out of it. When? After the resurrection on the Day of Judgment. As for now, no. And on this basis, the stronger opinion is that it is the abiding Paradise. And in this, Ibn al-Qayyim says in his famous poem al-Mimiyyah:
So come to the Gardens of Eden, for they are your first dwellings, and therein is the encampment
He said, “your first dwellings.” Good. And among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of speech for Allah, as He said:
We saidقلنا
.
And among them is that it is with a heard voice and recited letters, as He said:
Go down from it, all of youاهبطوا منها جميعا
[Al-Baqarah 2:38]
For if they had not heard that, the addressing of the command to them would not have been valid.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that emphasis in the eloquent Arabic style is a form of rhetoric, as He said:
All of us.جميعا
And on this basis, it is semantic emphasis, because it is a state in terms of grammar. For when something is important, it should be emphasized. So you say to a man, if you want to urge him to do something: “O so-and-so, hurry, hurry, hurry” several times. What is the intent? Emphasis and urging.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that guidance is from Allah, as He said:
And when guidance comes to you from Me فإما يأتينكم مني هدى
[Al-Baqarah 2:38]
.
And branching from this benefit is that you do not ask for guidance except from Allah the Exalted, because He is the One who brings it.
If someone were to say:
And whoever followsإما يأتينكم
Does not indicate occurrence, because it is not like “if” (idha)? We say: Yes, it does not indicate occurrence, but the reality indicates occurrence. What is the reality? That
And there was no nation but that there had passed within it a warner.ما من أمة إلا خلا فيها نذير
[Fatir 35:24]
.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that whoever follows the guidance of Allah is safe before him and behind him, as He said:
there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.فلا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون
[Al-Baqarah 2:38]
.
And among its benefits is that whoever follows the guidance of Allah is the winner, no one else, as He said:
there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. فلا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون
[Al-Baqarah 2:38]
As for people other than these, they are always between fear of what is to come and grief over what has passed.
Then Allah the Exalted said:
And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs - those will be companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally." والذين كفروا وكذبوا بآياتنا أولئك أصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون
[Al-Baqarah 2:39]
Good. We said that “inma” (if/whenever) does not indicate occurrence, but the reality indicates occurrence. It is possible to say in this formulation:
And whoever followsفإما يأتينكم
What indicates occurrence is the emphasis. The emphasis of the sentence indicates occurrence, as is the reality.
