Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And seek help through patience and prayer. And it is indeed difficult, except for the humble."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. I think we have finished with the previous exegesis and its benefits?
Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah] واستعينوا بالصبر والصلاة وإنها لكبيرة إلا على الخاشعين
[Al-Baqarah 2:45]
Seek help in their matters
Through patienceبالصبر
meaning in them
And prayerوالصلاة
and it is the known worship,
And it isوإنها
namely prayer, or seeking help is difficult, meaning arduous
except for the humbly submissive [to Allah]إلا على الخاشعين
[Al-Baqarah 2:45]
namely the humble before the command of Allah. Seeking help is asking for assistance, and seeking help through patience is that a person should be patient with what is disliked, whether it is a disliked nature or a disliked creation, or otherwise. The important thing is that he should be patient, restrain himself, and bear hardship until the desired outcome is achieved. This is a proven fact: when a person is patient with something, he attains his goal, but when he gets bored, he loses much good. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
cherish that which gives you benefit (in the Hereafter) and seek help from Allah and do not lose heart احرص على ما ينفعك واستعن بالله ولا تعجز
Sahih Muslim 2664
Many people see that their initial effort in this work is beneficial to them, so they start, but they do not achieve their objective quickly, so they become weak, tired, and give up. If his initial time is wasted, is that not so? His time is wasted, which may be a long time, and he does not feel safe that if he turns away from the first and starts a second, he might suffer the same fate as the first and give up. Then his life passes by without benefit. But if he is patient, knowing that between him and his desire is only the extension of days, and there is no reason for him to stop, let him be patient. Let us suppose a person, a student of knowledge, intended to memorize *Bulugh al-Maram* and started and continued, but boredom overtook him and he became unable to continue. The time that has passed, yes? It is a loss for him, except for what remains in his mind or memory of what he memorized, otherwise it is gone. But if he had continued and completed it, the objective would have been achieved. And so you can compare other cases. As for prayer, a person might ask how it can be a helper? Yes, it is a helper, but it is not just prayer; rather, the true prayer is that in which there is prayer of the heart before prayer of the limbs. As for our prayer today, it is mostly prayer of the limbs, not prayer of the heart. For this reason, you find that from the moment a person says the opening takbir, wide and great doors of useless thoughts open up to him. And therefore, from the moment he says the closing salam, they clear away and go. But the true prayer, in which a person feels that he is standing before Allah and that it is a garden containing all the fruits of worship, he must be content with it over all the world. He must, he must be content with it over all the world with this prayer, because he has connected with whom? With Allah the Mighty and Majestic, who is his beloved and the most beloved thing to him, so he forgot everything else. As for the person who seeks help through prayer to be entertained by it, but his heart is preoccupied with other things, then prayer has never benefited him in this regard. It is mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
When a matter concerned him, meaning when it became difficult for him, he would turn to prayer.كان إذا حزبه أمر أي اشتد عليه فزع إلى الصلاة
And this is indicated by his (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) preoccupation in the tent on the day of Badr with what? With prayer and calling upon his Lord for victory.
Through patience and prayer بالصبر والصلاة
Prayer here encompasses the obligatory and the voluntary
And it is وإنها
It was said:
Indeed,إنها
namely prayer, and they reasoned that it is, O Mas'ud, the closest mentioned. May Allah reward you. The closest mentioned is not to the wall, yes? They said it is the closest mentioned, and the rule in the Arabic language is that the pronoun refers to the closest mentioned.
Second: That prayer is creation, the creation of something that did not exist, because it is an action, and patience is restraint, and creation is better than restraint. For this reason, Islam as a whole is creation, meaning the creation of something, not the negation of something, and patience, as we said, is restraint, and creation is more noble and more eloquent, so prayer deserved for the pronoun to refer to it.
Third: That his saying:
except for the humbly submissive [to Allah] إلا على الخاشعين
[Al-Baqarah 2:45]
it is impossible that patience is intended in an absolute sense, because some of the disbelievers are more patient with their god than the believer is patient with his Lord, or with the law of his Lord, and with his work more than the believer is patient
And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods وانطلق الملأ منهم أن امشوا واصبروا على آلهتكم
[Sad 38:6]
they are patient with their gods. And this opinion is closer and more correct.
And it was said that his saying:
and indeed,وإنها
refers to the seeking of help understood from his saying:
seek helpاستعينوا
because the verb "seek help" indicates a time and an event, meaning a time and a source, so it is permissible for the pronoun to refer to the source understood from the verb. Are you with me? As in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
be justاعدلوا
What is it? It is, namely justice, understood from his saying:
Be just; that is nearer to righteousnessاعدلوا هو أقرب للتقوى
[Al-Ma'idah 5:8]
But the first meaning is clearer
and indeed,وإنها
namely prayer
is burdensomeلكبيرة
namely arduous
except for the humbly submissive [to Allah]إلا على الخاشعين
[Al-Baqarah 2:45]
the people of humility before Allah the Mighty and Majestic and submission to Him. For this reason, you find that prayer is heavy on whom? On the hypocrites, because they do not have faith, but it is light on the believer. Rather, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I have been made to love from your worldly life women and fragrance, and I have made the coolness of my eyes in prayer حبب إلي من دنياكم النساء والطيب وجعلت قرة عيني في الصلاة
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:849
(may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) — So if Allah makes your eye's delight in prayer, then rejoice in good, for it is a sign of good and a sign that you are among the humble.
