The questioner : On the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah] واستعينوا بالصبر والصلاة وإنها لكبيرة إلا على الخاشعين
[Al-Baqarah 2:45]
Is it understood from this verse that the word “great” departs from its original meaning, from its literal meaning?
The Shaykh : Yes: O Sabir, you are one of the modern scholars. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
They are being punished but they are not being punished for anything major. إنهما ليعذبان وما يعذبان في كبير
Sunan Ibn Majah 349Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning it is burdensome for them.
