Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And when We gave Moses the Book and the Criterion, so that perhaps you may be guided”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then He, Mighty and Majestic, clarified another of the greatest of blessings:
And [recall] when We gave Moses the Scripture and criterion وإذ آتينا موسى الكتاب و الفرقان
[Al-Baqarah 2:53]
We gave Mosesآتينا موسى
meaning We gave them.
And We gaveوآتينا
with the long vowel takes two objects, unlike *atayna* which takes only one object, because *atayna* with the long vowel means “We gave,” while *atayna* with the short vowel means “We came.” Yes, He says:
when We gave Moses the Scriptureآتينا موسى الكتاب
[Al-Baqarah 2:53]
We gave him. The *al* in “the Book” is the article of specificity, meaning which specificity? The mental one, meaning the book known to you, which is the Torah. It is called a book because it is written, for Allah, Exalted and Majestic, wrote the Torah with His Hand.
and the Criterion والفرقان
The *waw* is a conjunction, and al-Furqan is conjoined to the Book. Is it something other than the Book, or is it the same, but this is a case of conjoining a description to the described? The answer is the second: al-Furqan is the Book itself, for the Torah is a Criterion by which Allah distinguished between truth and falsehood, between justice and injustice, between the close friends of Allah and the enemies of Allah, and so on, all that by which distinction and difference are made. Thus, its conjunction is a case of conjoining a description to the described. Have you seen the saying of Allah the Exalted
