Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And We gave Moses the Book, and they differed over it. And if not for a word that had preceded from your Lord, the judgment would have been executed between them. And indeed, they are in doubt concerning it, a disturbing doubt.”

And We did certainly give Moses the Torah ولقد آتينا موسى الكتاب
[Al-Baqarah 2:87]
We gaveآتينا
We gave, and the giving here is a legislative and predestined giving: legislative, because it was attributed to the revelation; predestined, because it actually occurred. Moses (peace be upon him) is the most excellent of the prophets of the Children of Israel, and he is in the third rank among the resolute prophets, because the resolute prophets are five, the most excellent of whom is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), then Abraham, then Moses. He—meaning Moses—is the prophet with the most followers after the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), due to the hadith: that he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a great multitude that blocked the horizon, and it was said: “This is Moses and his people.” "
the Book الكتاب
the Torah "
It was called a Book because it was written. Allah the Exalted said:
And We wrote for him on the tablets [something] of all things وكتبْنا له في الألواح مِن كل شيء
[Al-A'raf 7:145]
So it was revealed in written form, "
and they differed over it فاختلف فيه
and they differed over it through belief and disbelief, just as with the Qur'an "
and they differed over itاختلف فيه
Who differed over it? His people, the people of Moses, differed. Some of them believed and some of them disbelieved. But the people of Moses are famous for their stubbornness, tyranny, great arrogance, and deep ignorance. When they passed by peoples who worshipped other than Allah, they said: “O Moses, make for us a god as they have gods.” And when they made a calf from ornaments, they said: “This is your god and the god of Moses.” So they made the calf that they had made with their own hands into a god. We ask Allah for safety. And to the continuation, if Allah wills. Yes.
The student: May Allah reward you .... It is difficult for me regarding his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
By Myself, no Jew or Christian hears of me and then does not believe in me. The Shaykh: We have answered it, we have answered it, yes. والذي نفسي بيده لا يسمع بي يهودي ولا نصراني ثم لا يؤمن بي
