Benefits of the Verse: “And We shaded you with clouds and sent down upon you manna and quail. Eat of the good things We have provided for you. You did not wrong Us, but they were wronging themselves.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And We shaded you with clouds and sent down to you manna and quails, [saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you." And they wronged Us not - but they were [only] wronging themselves. وظللنا عليكم الغمام وأنزلنا عليكم المن والسلوى كلوا من طيبات ما رزقنكم وما ظلمونا ولكن كانوا أنفسهم يظلمون
[Al-Baqarah 2:57]

It is derived from the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And We shaded you with cloudsوظللنا عليكم الغمام
[Al-Baqarah 2:57]
: The blessing of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, in what He has prepared for His servants in the form of shade, for shade from the heat is among the blessings of Allah upon the servant, as He said:
And We shaded you with cloudsوظللنا عليكم الغمام
[Al-Baqarah 2:57]
And Allah the Exalted said:
and has made for you from the mountains, sheltersوجعل لكم من الجبال أكنانا
[An-Nahl 16:81]
to protect you from the heat and from the cold as well.
It also contains evidence of the power of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, in that He made the clouds a shade over these people, and that it is He who drives the clouds and manages them, Blessed and Exalted is He, as He wills.
It also contains a clarification of the blessing of Allah upon the Children of Israel in sending down manna and quail as food and drink that came to them without fatigue and without hardship, for this reason it was described as manna.
It also contains evidence that the meat of birds is among the best of meats, because Allah prepared these birds for them; He did not prepare for them hyenas or rabbits, but He prepared for them birds, and it is also the meat of the people of Paradise
And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. ولحم طير مما يشتهون
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:21]
.
It also contains evidence that if Allah bestows a blessing upon a person, he should be generous with it and not deprive himself of it, as He said:
Eat from the good things with which We have provided youكلوا من طيبات ما رزقنكم
[Al-Baqarah 2:57]
For a person should not be overly modest about a permissible thing. For this reason, Shaykh al-Islam said: Whoever refrains from eating the good things for other than a religious reason is blameworthy. This is correct because he has left what Allah has made permissible for him, as if he is saying that he does not want Allah to have a favor over him. A person should not refrain from the good things except for a religious reason. The religious reason may be related to his body, or related to his religion, or related to others. A person may refrain from meat because his body does not accept it, in which case leaving it is a matter of diet. A person may leave meat because he fears that his soul will become attached to it, so that his concern becomes that he will lose his good things in his worldly life. A person may leave the good of provision out of consideration for others, such as what is mentioned regarding 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) in the Year of the Drought, the famous year of famine, that he did not eat bread with meat, but only with date syrup, because he could not say, “I can fill myself with meat while the nation is hungry,” so it was for the sake of others. The important point is that if he refrains from the good things for a religious reason, he is not blameworthy, but if he refrains from them out of excessive modesty, he is blameworthy. Yes, there is no question if we are taking the benefits; there is no question.
It also contains evidence that the Children of Israel disbelieved this blessing, as He said:
but they were [only] wronging themselves.ولكن كانوا أنفسهم يظلمون
[Al-Baqarah 2:57]
.
It contains among its benefits that the sinner does not wrong Allah, but rather he wrongs himself. However, it is correct to say that this man is wronging himself in the right of Allah and in the right of people; he is not wronging Allah, but wronging himself in the right of Allah and in the right of people. Yes, these are the benefits of this verse, and I have finished with what I know.
Yes, it also contains the benefit that everything we eat is from the provision of Allah, as He said:
We have provided for youما رزقنكم
.
It contains that the permissible of provision is the good, as He said: “Eat of the good things,” and that the bad, Allah did not command its eating, but rather He forbade it.
