A man has a group of children with different needs; is it justice to spend on them according to their needs?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah reward you. I mean, a man has a group of children who, of course, vary in age, so their needs differ. The need of the older one differs from the need of the younger one.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Is he required to be just in spending among his children in the same way, or does he give them according to their need?

The Shaykh : No, justice among them, meaning among his children, is to give each one what he needs. Some may need books, for example, while others do not.
The daughter now needs earrings, for example. What is their value? One hundred riyals. Let it be one hundred riyals. And the son needs a cap. What is its value? Five riyals. So we buy her earrings for one hundred riyals, and we buy him a cap for five riyals.

The questioner : O Shaykh, does that mean if the older one needs, for example, a car, you buy him a car?

The Shaykh : Yes, well done. No.
If the older one needs a car, I do not buy him a car. I buy a car for myself, in my name, and I grant him its use. He benefits from it because he only needs the benefit, not the car itself. So the car remains in my name, and the benefit is for him. Because if I made it his property, it would mean I gave him what he does not need. Do you understand?
Therefore, people should not give a car to the one who needs a car. Rather, it is said: I will buy the car and give it to you to use. Go to school with it, go with it for your purpose. Yes, and it is in my name. If I die, it will be mine, not yours. Yes. And Brother Musa says: The time has ended, and we hope you will excuse us next week, because we have a trip, if Allah wills, to Makkah and al-Madinah. And if Allah wills, we will see you in good health in the first week of the term. We ask Allah for us and for you beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds. And we inform you that
he who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allah would make that path easy, leading to Paradise for himمن سلك طريقا يلتمس فيه علما سهل الله له به طريقا إلى الجنة
Sahih Muslim 2699a
and you, if Allah wills, have taken a path in which you seek knowledge. We ask Allah to make the path to Paradise easy for us and for you.
