I used to work for a farm owner, and when he came to pay me my wages, he made a mistake in the calculation and gave me more. I am now very embarrassed to return it to him, knowing that he deducted days from me without any right.

The questioner : He says: I used to work for a farm owner, and when he came to pay me my wages, he made a mistake in the calculation and gave me more. I am now very embarrassed to return it to him, knowing that he deducted days from me without any right. What should I do?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for you to return it to him as well. If you return it to him, he will not say anything to you; rather, he may even thank you for increasing the amount in your favor and returning it to him. There is absolutely no harm in this. It is obligatory that you return it to him and say, “We made a mistake in the calculation, and this is extra, so take it.”

The questioner : Yes.
