What is the ruling on wiping over socks if they are thin? And when does the period for wiping begin?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh, regarding wiping over socks, is it a condition that they be thick? When does the period for wiping begin: from the time of wearing them, or from the first state of ritual impurity after wearing them, or from the first, I mean...

The Shaykh : Wipe.

The questioner : From the first wipe.

The Shaykh : Wearing thin socks is permissible, and one may wipe over them even if they are thin. This is because the wisdom behind the permissibility of wiping over the feet is the hardship of removing and putting them on, not that the foot is covered. It is well known that it is difficult to remove and then put on thin socks, just as it is difficult to remove and put on thick ones. Therefore, the correct view is that wiping over socks is permissible whether they are thin or thick.
As for the beginning of the period for wiping, according to the stronger opinion, it starts from the first time one wipes after a state of ritual impurity, not from the time of wearing them and not from the state of ritual impurity itself. For example, if we assume that a man wore socks for the Fajr prayer on Thursday and his ablution was broken at ten o'clock, and he performed ablution for the Zuhr prayer at twelve o'clock, then the period begins at twelve o'clock. He may wipe until twelve o'clock on Friday. However, in any case, on Friday he will encounter the need for a full ritual bath, and if he wishes to take a bath, he must remove the socks. Yes.
