What is the ruling on zakah for a man whose salary is small and who supports three families?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, O honorable Shaykh: Regarding zakah, a man whose salary is small and who spends on three families, does he qualify for zakah?

The Shaykh : Zakah is for the poor person who needs it. For example, the one who spends on three families, as mentioned in the question, may have a large salary.

The questioner : Eight hundred.

The Shaykh : His salary is eight hundred riyals. At the present time, eight hundred riyals amount to nothing for three families. Even if we assume that the house he lives in is his property, eight hundred riyals in our current time are not sufficient for the necessities of food, drink, clothing, and other needs. So let him take from the zakah only what satisfies his need, and no more. If it turns out that he is self-sufficient with, for example, ten thousand over the course of the year, he should not take more. And as long as he is in need, let him take, and there is no blame on him.
