Is it obligatory to be in a state of wudu' when performing the prostration of gratitude?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : This questioner, Muhammad Idris, says: "O honorable Shaykh, is it obligatory for me to be in a state of wudu' when I perform the prostration of gratitude?"

The Shaykh : The correct view is that it is not obligatory for a person to be in a state of wudu' for the prostration of gratitude. This is because the cause of the prostration of gratitude is the renewal of blessings and the removal of calamities, and these do not have a limited time for which a person prepares. Therefore, whenever the condition that necessitates the prescription of the prostration of gratitude occurs, he should prostrate in whatever state he is in.
As for the prostration of recitation, what we see is that it is not befitting for a person to prostrate except in a state of ritual purity. This is because the prostration of recitation occurs by a person's choice; he reads when he wishes and does not read when he wishes. Therefore, in our view, a distinction is made between the prostration of gratitude and the prostration of recitation. The prostration of gratitude: whenever its cause is found, he should prostrate, whether he is in a state of ritual purity or not. The prostration of recitation: it must be performed in a state of ritual purity, because recitation is by a person's choice, so he is able to perform wudu' first and then read. When he reaches the verse of prostration, he prostrates. Yes.
