Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Your Eminence, some people say, “May Allah’s face be upon you, have lunch or dinner at our place.” In this case... does the person who says, “May Allah’s face be upon you,” commit a sin?

The Shaykh : This is forbidden (haram), and it is not permissible for a person to say, “May Allah’s face be upon you, have lunch or dinner at my place.” This is because he is seeking intercession with Allah over the creation, and Allah the Exalted is too great to be a means between you and people. Therefore, this statement is forbidden, and it is obligatory to forbid it.

The questioner : But the person addressed commits a sin if he disobeys, meaning if he does not have lunch or dinner at our place.

The Shaykh : The discussion is about the one who acts, the one who said, “May Allah’s face be upon you.” We say: this statement is forbidden and not lawful.
And the person addressed has the right to refuse. The person addressed has the right to refuse, because this formula is forbidden, and nothing is obligatory based on a forbidden formula. Yes.
