Is it permissible to slaughter a sick sheep to relieve it if one is not going to eat it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Your Eminence, if I have a sick sheep and I do not want to eat it after slaughtering it, is it better to slaughter it or leave it to die on its own?

The Shaykh : Yes, one looks at the situation. If its illness is going to be prolonged and that will result in you losing money on it, because you are obligated to spend on it and care for it, then there is no harm in killing it to protect the wealth, because spending money on it is a waste of it, and wasting wealth is prohibited. So you kill it to be relieved of it. Likewise, if it is in great pain, some scholars say: there is no harm in killing it to relieve it. This is if it is under your control and ownership. But if it is a beast for which you are not responsible, leave it. For example, if we find a beast in the street and we do not know whose it is, and it is sick and in pain, doing good to it is undoubtedly better, but it is not obligatory. Did you understand? Good. Did you understand? Good.

The questioner : Your Eminence, the Shaykh.

The Shaykh : You are one of us, I think.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Ah.

The questioner : I live in al-Ras.

The Shaykh : Fine.
