Is it permissible for a person to slaughter a beast of burden if its illness becomes severe?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : His EminenceThe Shaykh : If a beast of burden becomes severely ill, is its owner permitted to slaughter it?

The Shaykh : If it is his property, there is nothing wrong with it. However, if it belongs to someone else, meaning he finds a sick and exhausted sheep in the wilderness, he is not obligated to slaughter it, nor is he obligated to sell it. But as for the one that belongs to him, he may slaughter it. Why? Because if it is his, he must take care of it by providing food and drink and monitoring it, and this wastes his time and money. Therefore, let him slaughter it so that he may be relieved of it and so that he may also relieve it. In this case: if he slaughters it according to the prescribed method of slaughter, it becomes lawful for whoever wishes to eat it, provided that this illness does not harm him. If he kills it by other means, it does not become lawful.
