Does the Friday bath and the bath for cleanliness suffice in place of wudu'?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. If a person pours water over his entire body for the Friday bath or for cleanliness, does that suffice for him in place of wudu'?

The Shaykh : No. If he takes a bath for Friday, it does not suffice for wudu'. And if it is for cleanliness, it does not suffice for wudu'. This is because the Friday bath and the bath for cleanliness are not performed to remove a state of ritual impurity, whereas wudu' is only performed to remove a state of ritual impurity.

The questioner : A state of major ritual impurity.

The Shaykh : A state of major ritual impurity suffices. That is, if a person takes a bath while in a state of major ritual impurity, it suffices for wudu'. However, rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nose are required.

The questioner : Anything other than a state of major ritual impurity does not suffice.

The Shaykh : No. It may suffice for a menstruating woman. The important point is that if the bath is performed to remove a state of ritual impurity, it suffices for wudu'. If it is not performed to remove a state of ritual impurity, it does not suffice. This is the criterion.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
