If a person is in a coma due to an accident, does he have to make up the prayers he missed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah preserve you, O Shaykh. A man was involved in an accident and was admitted to the hospital, where he remained in a coma for approximately one month. Allah restored him to health, and he asks whether he must make up the prayers... how does he make them up?

The Shaykh : If a person is involved in an accident and loses consciousness for a long or short period, he does not have to make up the prayers; he does not have to make up the prayers. This is because his mind was absent without his choice. This is unlike a person who takes drugs and loses his mind for two or three days; he must make up the prayers. The difference between the two is that the one who takes drugs loses his mind due to his own choice, whereas the one who loses consciousness due to an accident or severe illness does not have to make up the prayers, because this happened without his choice. This is the stronger and correct opinion. However, if this coincides with the days of Ramadan, he must make up the fast. If this coincides with the daytime of Ramadan, he must make up the fast; that is, it is obligatory for him to make up his fast. The difference between fasting and prayer is clear, just as the difference between them is clear in the case of menstruation: the woman makes up the fast but does not make up the prayer. Yes.
