Is the Angel of Death in charge of taking the souls of animals?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, is the Angel of Death in charge of taking the souls of animals?

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : The Angel of Death

The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : Is he in charge of taking the souls of animals?

The Shaykh : And what do you think if I said that the Angel of Death is in charge of taking the souls of animals, or that he is not? What is the benefit of this? Did the Companions ask the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) about it? They were more eager for knowledge than we are, and the Messenger was more capable of answering than we are, yet they did not ask. Rather, Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
Say, "The angel of death will take you who has been entrusted with you قل يتوفاكم ملك الموت الذي وكل بكم
[As-Sajdah 32:11]
He is in charge of taking the souls of the children of Adam. As for souls other than those of the children of Adam, we do not know; Allah knows best. However, the most important point in the answer to this question is that a person should not be overly inquisitive. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The overzealous have perished هلك المتنطعون
So do not ask about anything that has no benefit. And by Allah, if there had been a benefit in knowing that the Angel of Death takes the souls of other animals, Allah and His Messenger would have clarified it, either in the Qur'an or the Sunnah, or Allah would have caused someone to ask the Messenger about it. That is why the Companions were happy when a Bedouin would come and ask the Messenger about something, even if they themselves would have been shy to ask the Messenger about it.
So the bottom line, my brother, for you and whoever hears this, is that delving deeply into these matters is wrong, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The overzealous have perished هلك المتنطعون
He did not say it once;
The excessive ones have perished, the excessive ones have perished, the excessive ones have perished. هلك المتنطعون هلك المتنطعون هلك المتنطعون
So matters of the unseen like these: take what is established and leave what is not mentioned. This applies to such matters, and it is even more so and more appropriate that we do not speak about the attributes of Allah, contrary to some students who say that we want to clarify matters of creed, so they ask about things in creed that the Companions did not ask about and that were not clarified in the Book and the Sunnah. This is also something from which one must be cautious. Perhaps you know what happened to Malik when the questioner asked him and said, "O Abu 'Abdullah, 'The Most Merciful rose above the Throne.' How did He rise? What did He do?" Malik lowered his head, unable to raise it from the severity of what had befallen him, and he stood sweating profusely. Then he raised his head and said: "O this one, the rising is not unknown, the how is not comprehensible, belief in it is obligatory, and asking about it is an innovation". And he was an imam among the imams. So we must, my brothers, take what is established regarding matters of the unseen, and as for the rest? We remain silent about it. If we had been obligated to know it, or if there had been a benefit in knowing it, Allah would have clarified it. Allah said
