You stated in the answer regarding the fasting of the one who is unable that he is responsible for himself

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh, you stated in the answer regarding the fasting of the one who is unable that he is responsible for feeding himself

The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : So why is the alms of breaking the fast paid on behalf of the one whose provision he is responsible for, such as the husband for his wife?

The Shaykh : Yes, first, may Allah reward you. This is not a matter of scholarly consensus. Many scholars, including al-Shawkani (may Allah have mercy on him), say: "Every person is addressed regarding his own fitrah". Therefore, the husband is not obligated to pay the fitrah of his wife, nor the fitrah of his son, nor the rest of his family. Some say that this is an exception because the Companions used to pay it for themselves and for those they provided for, so this would be an exception. Also, this is closest to the maintenance that the head of the household performs. However, I lean toward the first opinion and say that the prevailing custom means, according to the first opinion, that every person is addressed regarding himself, such that if the head of the household said, "I will not pay for you," and they are able, they would pay it themselves. But I say, as long as the current custom is that the man pays for himself and his family, we follow this custom. Yes.
