Q2: My wife passed away (may Allah have mercy on her) two weeks before the date of this letter. She had seven days of fasting to make up from the previous Ramadan, which she broke due to menstruation, and she passed away without making them up. Should I fast on her behalf or not? I am aware that I have one month that I have not made up. Should I fast what is due from me first, and then fast on her behalf?
A2: If the situation is as described, it is obligatory for you to first make up the fasts that are due from you, and then it is prescribed for you to fast the days that were due from your wife. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 1147 It is agreed upon that it is authentic. The guardian is the close relative, and you are like him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
