A man who was extravagant in his sins and disobedience and was abandoning the prayer, then Allah tested him by taking his mind; what is his ruling in the two abodes?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : His EminenceThe Shaykh : A man who was extravagant in his open sinfulness and disobedience, and among that was his complete abandonment of the prayer, then Allah decreed that He deprived him of the blessing of reason, and then he died in that state; what is his ruling in the two abodes?

The Shaykh : If he was abandoning the prayer, then one who abandons the prayer is a disbeliever. So if his reason is taken away, he remains in his disbelief. As for sin, sin does not take one out of Islam. That is to say, if he was extravagant in his sins, such as committing unlawful sexual intercourse, drinking intoxicants, stealing, or other sins that do not lead to disbelief, and then he became insane after that and died in his insanity, then he is an open sinner. He is to be prayed over, mercy is to be sought for him, and he is to be buried with the Muslims. Did you understand? Yes.
