The Book of Mosques and Places of Prayer-01a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Kamil al-Juhdri narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Wahid narrated to us, saying: al-A'mash narrated to us. He said: And Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and Abu Kuraib narrated to us, saying: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us from al-A'mash from Ibrahim al-Taymi from his father from Abu Dharr, who said: I said:
which mosque was set up first in the earth يا رسول الله أي مسجد وضع في الأرض أول
Mishkat al-Masabih 753
.

The Shaykh : In my copy it is "awwala" (first), in your copy is it "awwal" (first)? The well-known form is "awwal", but here it is in the accusative case. His statement: "awwal." In some manuscripts, as in al-Mishkat, it says: Mulla Ali said: "awwala," without tanween (dual vowel). In my copy, the alif-lam is ambiguous; he says in my copy it is disconnected from the genitive... The intended meaning is: the first of everything. It is permissible to open it as an accusative—meaning in the accusative case—on the basis of adverbial usage and its not being directed to the measure of the verb or the descriptive, like His saying, the Exalted:
and the caravan was lower [in position] than you والركب أسفل منكم
[Al-Anfal 8:42]
, and the well-known form is "awwal" without tanween. Yes.
The important thing is, he said.
The reciter:
Abu Dharr reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, which mosque was set up first on the earth? He said: Al-Masjid al-Haram (the sacred). I (again) said: Then which next? He said: It was the Masjid Aqsa. I (again) said: How long the space of time (between their setting up)? He (the Holy Prophet) said: It was forty years. And whenever the time comes for prayer, pray there, for that is a mosque
Sahih Muslim 520a
And in the narration of Abu al-Kamil
Then wherever the prayer overtakes you, pray it, for it is a mosque. ثم حيثما أدركتك الصلاة فصله فإنه مسجد
.

The Shaykh : This hadith was considered difficult by some scholars, because the one who built the Sacred Mosque, which is the Ka'bah, was Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and it is well known that the one who built the House of Jerusalem was Sulayman, and between them is a long period, not forty years.
And the answer to that is to say: Sulayman's building of the mosque was a renovation, and this interpretation is necessary, because reality contradicts the idea that there were forty years between them, so the interpretation is necessitated in this manner.
