The Book of Mosques and Places of Prayer-07a
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us from Malik ibn Anas, in what was read to him, from Abu al-Zubayr from Tawus from Ibn Abbas: .
Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj said: It was reported to me that Tawus said to his son, "Did you recite it in your prayer?" He said, "No." He said, "Repeat your prayer," because Tawus narrated it from three or four [Companions], or as he said.
The Shaykh : This indicates that he considers it obligatory and that the prayer is not valid without it. He said: "Because Tawus [narrated it]," meaning himself. This is an instance of explicit mention in place of implicit reference, and there are many reasons for explicit mention in place of implicit reference, such as displaying authority and superiority, and the like. For if he had said, "Because I narrated it," it would not have been as eloquent as his saying, "Because Tawus narrated it."
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach them this supplication just as he taught them a chapter of the Qur'an, saying: Say, "O Allah, we seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, and we seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and we seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and we seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death."
Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj said: It was reported to me that Tawus said to his son, "Did you recite it in your prayer?"
