What is the ruling on giving a sermon at the graveside during burial?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding giving a sermon at the graves or at the time of burial, what do you say about it? May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : We say about it: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do it sometimes, but he did not do it in the manner of a formal sermon, standing up and preaching to the people in a loud voice. What is preserved from him is that he once came to al-Baqi' while they were burying a funeral, so he sat down and the people sat around him. He used to tap the ground with a stick and preached to them (peace and blessings be upon him). Likewise, he preached at the grave where he said:
There is none of you but has his place written for him in Paradise or in the Hell- Fire. ما منكم من أحد إلا وقد كتب مقعده من الجنة ومقعده من النار
Sahih al-Bukhari 4945
But it was not in the manner of a formal sermon.
And I do not know, up to this moment, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or any of the Companions stood up to preach to the people at the time of burial in the manner of a formal sermon.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
