Explanation of the Book of Hajj-07a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Mas'ud narrated to us, Hamad ibn Zayd narrated to us from al-Zubayr ibn 'Arabi, who said:
A man asked Ibn `Umar about the touching of the Black Stone. Ibn `Umar said, "I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) touching and kissing it." The questioner said, "But if there were a throng (much rush) round the Ka`ba and the people overpowered me, (what would I do?)" He replied angrily, "Stay in Yemen (as that man was from Yemen). I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) touching and kissing it."
Sahih al-Bukhari 1611

The Shaykh : The people of Yemen have a saying, meaning "what do you think?" This is explicit text that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) touched the Black Stone and kissed it. Touching it is wiping it with the right hand, and kissing it is known as placing the lips on the stone. The man's saying "What do you think?" was a rebuke from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) due to his intense love for adhering to the Sunnah. He rebuked him and said, "Make your 'what do you think' about Yemen. You are now in Mecca, there is no 'what do you think' here. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do this. If it is easy for you... and if it is not easy, there is no blame on you."
