Explanation of the Book of Hajj-09a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Ali ibn Abdullah narrated to us, saying: Sufyan narrated to us from Amr from Ata from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:
The Messenger of Allah only performed the Sa'i of the House and of As-Safa and Al-Marwah to show his strength to the idolaters. إنما سعى رسول الله رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بالبيت وبين الصفا والمروة ليري المشركين قوته
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 863Sahih (Darussalam)
Al-Humaydi added: Sufyan narrated to us, saying: Amr narrated to us that he said: I heard Ata from Ibn Abbas the same.

The Shaykh : Look, the discussion is on this hadith.

The questioner : The hadith of Ibn Umar.

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : The last hadith of Anas, O Shaykh. The fourth hadith is the hadith of Ibn Abbas:
The Messenger of Allah only performed the Sa'i of the House and of As-Safa and Al-Marwah to show his strength to the idolaters. إنما سعى رسول الله رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بالبيت وبين الصفا والمروة ليري المشركين قوته
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 863Sahih (Darussalam)
"And what is meant by sa'y here is walking briskly, and the discussion on this has already been mentioned in the chapter on the beginning of running."

The Shaykh : Yes, regarding running in tawaf, it is accepted. But regarding sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah, there is some hesitation about it, because it appears that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) performed sa'y because Hajar, the mother of Isma'il, performed sa'y in the valley, and for that reason people performed sa'y.
