Explanation of the Book of Hajj-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Musa ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Juwayriyyah narrated to us from Nafi' who said: Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would combine the Maghrib and 'Isha' prayers at Muzdalifah, except that he would pass by the valley that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had taken, and he would enter it, shake off the dust, perform ablution, and not pray until he prayed at Muzdalifah.

The Shaykh : This is something that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to do; he sought to follow the locations of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), even in matters that occurred by coincidence, and he would do them. This is due to the intensity of his love for following the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). However, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "This principle was contradicted by others of the Companions, and they said: If the intention of worship is not apparent in it, then it is not prescribed". What appears to me is that Ibn Umar, due to the strength of his love for following the actions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), is excused, even though we do not see that a person should worship in such a manner. Similar to this is what has passed before us regarding the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) following the dates on the food; he would follow them and eat them. Some people say: It is recommended to follow them. We say: No, this is something the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did according to his appetite. However, a person might say, due to the strength of his love for following the Messenger, "I will do this because the Messenger did it, and I feel at ease and rejoice with this," not as an act of worship. Just as a person, if he loves someone, imitates him even in the tones of his voice and in all his actions.

The Shaykh : He says:The questioner : If one does not stand on al-Safa and al-Marwah and make the known supplication, is his sa'y valid? The answer: It is valid, because this is on the basis of recommendation. People now, with the severe crowding, find it difficult to stand, and perhaps people will not let them stand. Yes.

The questioner : Now, with the crowding in the push from 'Arafah to Muzdalifah, I think the walker will arrive before the rider. So the owners of cars do not know if they will arrive before midnight or not, in order to catch the prayer, meaning. So if they fear, is it permissible for them to pray at 'Arafah?

The Shaykh : There is no harm, meaning if one fears that the push from 'Arafah will not allow him to reach Muzdalifah until after midnight, let him pray at 'Arafah, and it is necessary.
