Does this Companion’s joy in eating indicate a lack of sincerity?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : This Companion was joyful on Friday because of the food. Does this indicate a lack of sincerity?

The Shaykh : No, he was not joyful merely for the sake of eating. This is not a matter of worship. If you were promised something that would please you after the 'Isha' prayer on a Thursday night, for example, would you not be pleased when it arrived? This does not contradict the man. He was not one who was joyful about the Friday prayer for the sake of the food; he was joyful about the day because it was customary for him to eat on that day. This indicates their condition, that they were few and destitute. And yet, he said, “There is no fat or grease. Allahu Akbar.” Yes.

The questioner : Regarding yesterday’s hadith, the issue of whether it is permissible to miss the congregational prayer due to rain. Is this...?

The Shaykh : No, the second cause is the river. And regarding this blind man, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, “Answer the call.” He did not make blindness an excuse. Yes.
