What is the ruling on one who rejoices when people praise him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The questioner : What is the ruling on one who rejoices when people praise him?

The Shaykh : That is, if people praise him and he rejoices, no, this does not contradict good intention. A person loves to be praised and loves for people to praise him. And 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), when Ibn 'Abdullah mentioned to them that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described a tree like the believer, and the people disputed over which tree it was, it occurred to him that it was the palm tree, but he did not speak up because he was young. So 'Umar said, "If you had said it, it would have been such and such," meaning it is something to rejoice in. And there is nothing wrong with this.
Whoever rejoices with his good deeds and grieves over his evil deeds, then that is the believer among you. من سرته حسنته وساءته سيئته فذلك المؤمن
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2165Sahih (Darussalam)
This is also the praise of people for a person, which is an immediate glad tidings for the believer.
For them are good tidings in the worldly life and in the Hereafter لهم البشرى في الحياة الدنيا وفي الآخرة
[Yunus 10:64]
There are many types of glad tidings, including seeing a man’s righteous deeds, seeing the effect of obedience on his heart through light and expansion, and people praising him and accepting him. So there are many types of glad tidings.
